What Are Age Spots?

Age Spots, or sun spots, or excess pigmentation, are excess melanin on the skin. Exposure to UVA sunlight stimulates your pigment-forming cells called “melanocytes” to manufacture melanin.

Melanin is what gives us a tan, but can also leave unwanted darker patches, which can look unpleasant and make your skin look older.

What Causes Age Spots?

The most common causes as to why you develop age spots on your skin are:

  • Skin aging
  • Genetics
  • Hormones
  • Sun damage
  • Tanning beds

Treatments For Age Spots

Plasma Pen™

Plasma Pen™,  also known as a  Plasma Blast  or Fibroblast device, is an excellent treatment to reduce age spots on the face and hands.  It’s quick and results are seen immediately.

This is one of my favourite treatments to quickly remove age spots. It works by lightly burning the skin with the Plasma arc.  The process for removing age spots is quick, precise and predictable with no thinning of the skin.

The area looks red immediately after the treatment for age spots, but this fades over a few weeks and you are left with clear skin in the area.

Chemical Peels

There are a number of Chemical Peels that are designed to treat age spots due to pigmentation for your skin type and tone.

The treatment works by harnessing the power of naturally occurring acids and active ingredients to deeply exfoliate the skin and remove imperfections. The treatment stimulates new cell growth and encourages collagen production to reveal clearer, fresher and firmer skin.

As dead skin cells are removed, your age spots and unwanted pigmentation are reduced.

Microneedling

One of our most popular treatments to rejuvenate aging skin and age spots, is an injection-free treatment known as microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy.

Using a dermapen, an electronic micro-needling device, the treatment when combined with skin cocktails, can trigger increased cell formation and force pigmentation cells to the surface of the skin, improving texture and tone.

Over a course of 6 treatments your skin looks brighter, fresher and with a visible reduction of the pigmentation causing age spots.
