What Are Jowls?

“Jowls” refers to the loose, sagging skin below the jawline. Most people develop jowls with age, and there are also a number of other factors which contribute to developing jowls.

What Causes Jowls?

Smoking, excess alcohol, as well as sun damage, can all speed up the aging process, leading to a loss of the skin’s collagen and elasticity.

As well as possibly having a genetic predisposition jowls, they could also occur if you have had a lot of weight loss. Sleeping on your front or side consistently may cause jowls to form over time.

Displaced Fat Pads

We all have pads of fat underneath our skin and when we are young they are in the perfect place on our face.

Unfortunately, as we age, the fat pads move down the face and create that hang-dog, droopy look.  In many cases jowls are not just loose skin, but also fat pads.

Turkey neck

People with jowls may experience crepey or deeply wrinkled skin, sometimes referred to as ‘Turkey Neck’, or they may have another layer of skin that drops below their jaw looking like a Double Chin.

Facial sagging

Jowls make the face look as if the face has sagged. That the normal jawline position has dropped and definition of the face is lost.

It is not necessarily a sign of being overweight and does not indicate underlying health problems. As part of aging, it’s natural for facial sagging to occur around the chin and jawline.

Treatments For Jowls

AGNES PRECISION RF

Our latest state-of-the-art machine the Agnes Precision RF, is superb to treat jowls … as well ad double chin and eyebags.

AGNES Precision RF is a combination of needles inserted into the area, and Radio Frequency is sent down the needles to literally melt the fat in the jowls and, at the same time, tighten the loose skin in the area.

Here are some of the results:

The AGNES does have some downtime, in that bruising can be initially quite strong, which some clients find difficult to fit into their lives.  But if you can take some time to let the bruising heal, the AGNES is well worth it.

HIFU

HIFU  (or high-intensity focussed ultrasound) is a powerful treatment that lifts and tightens the face and neck.

With no downtime, HIFU is popular to tighten skin on the jowl, but it takes a few months to see results.

HIFU It works by stimulating your the skin, muscles and membranes under the skin to generate collagen which, in turn, has a lifting and tightening effect.

Typically 2 treatments are needed, with annual top ups.

It’s great for jowls!

Dermal Fillers

If you like to see instant results Dermal Fillers are for you.

Treatments for jowls can be broadly put in three categories.

  • Skin Tightening & Fat Break Down – to tighten loose skin, the Agnes RF treatment is excellent, but has 7-10 days downtime
  • Skin Tightening – Plasma Pen is very good for the jowls, where there is just loose skin. There’s some dowtine, but worth it  HIFU  is slower to show results, but long lasting with no downtime at all
  • Adding Structure To The Face – Dermal Fillers are a quick and effective solution to lift the skin
