Aesthetic treatment options for double chins and jowls

Sagging skin around the jawline can cause jowls and can make any double chin appear worse. As these are both common issues there are a number of aesthetic treatment options for double chins and jowls, but what are these and how do they work?

What are the effective aesthetic treatment options for double chins and jowls?

There are a number of different treatment options available for double chins and sagging skin around the jawline, causing jowls. The effective aesthetic treatment options include:

  • Fat dissolving injections
  • Dermal fillers
  • HIFU

Fat dissolving injections for the double chin

Fat dissolving injections can dissolve stubborn fat deposits without surgery. These are perfect for treating small, localised areas of the body, like under the chin. The injections target fat cells specifically, distorting the cell wall allowing the fluid inside to leak out of the cell and be erased from the body through the normal digestion process. Once a fat cell has been removed, it won’t return, although dormant fat cells in the area can become larger without the right diet or exercise. This is what makes fat dissolving injections such a good option for the double chin, with permanent results!

Using dermal filler to reduce sagging skin and jowls

Dermal filler can be used to reduce sagging skin at various points around the face, including for treating jowls and skin around the jawline. Jowls are caused by skin sagging from the jawline and the movement of facial fat pads. As a natural part of the ageing process the facial fat pads start to slip further down the face, while the skin also loses elastin and collagen. Combined together these can result in excess skin hanging from the jawline near the chin. One highly effective way to treat this is to use dermal filler to restore the lost volume further up the face. These are often made from hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occuring substance that binds with water to hydrate and nourish skin cells. By injecting hyaluronic acid filler into the skin around the cheekbones and jawline, the appearance of jowls can be greatly reduced. At the same time this can also increase the production of collagen, allowing the skin to regain lost volume naturally.

A top up of filler may be required every 6 to 12 months depending on your metabolism,  to keep a more youthful appearance and to prevent jowls from reappearing.

HIFU non surgical face lift

Finally, a non surgical face lift can be a great option. There are a number of treatment options that provide a non surgical face lift but the HIFU ice is one of the most effective. This is a treatment that involves using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to penetrate deep into the layers of skin promoting skin tightening and lifting. This effect can last for months after the initial treatment for a youthful appearance for longer.

HIFU is used for face sculpting and shaping and this can boost collagen production deep within the skin for increased facial volume and shape structuring.
