LED Light Therapy – What You Need To Know

I’m a huge fan of LED Phototherapy – or Light Therapy – because of its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production, reduce inflammation and accelerate the healing process.

It’s a first-rate support to the skin treatments such as Microneedling, Chemical Peels and the Plasma Pen Skin Tightening  treatment as it works with the skin to encourage its own natural healing process.

If you’re not familiar with LED Phototherapy technology, light therapy uses a machine containing a large number of different coloured LED bulbs.

The light bulbs deliver optimised light at a specific wavelength to stimulate a change within the skin.

In a similar manner to plants, our cells have the same ability to absorb light and convert it into energy.   Just as when you’re exposed to UV light, an enzyme reaction occurs in your skin to create melanin which causes a tan.

Equally other wavelengths of light have the ability to stimulate different enzyme reactions that have a different effect on your skin.

LED light therapy is a safe, painless and effective way of stimulating collagen and elastin production, without any side effects.

LED works particularly well as an addition to other skin treatments and is also effective without the need for skin care ingredients or wounding the skin.

This makes it an effective treatment for all skin types, including hypersensitivity and rosacea.

Benefits Of Reviving Red LED Light

For: Inflammation
The wavelength of Red LED therapy is between 620nm and 700nm.  It is mainly used anti-ageing because of its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

The additional collagen production from Red LED therapy helps to strengthen the skin and make it more resilient, as well as helping your skin to retain moisture.

Red light LED therapy has an anti-inflammatory effect so reduces inflammation within the tissues.  As it accelerates the healing process it’s particularly useful as a post-treatment “add-on” to Microneedling and Chemical Peels.

Red Light is used for healing blemishes, repairing sun damage, fading scars and improving overall skin tone.

The treatment is also very effective for rosacea and reducing the redness that is associated with broken/weak capillaries.

Benefits of Purifying Blue LED Light

For: Acne
Blue light LED light therapy has a wavelength of between 405nm to 420nm and is predominately used in acne treatments due to its antibacterial benefits.

Blue light at wavelength of 415nm helps to create free radicals, thus killing the bacteria which causes most acne.

When Blue light is used in combination with Red light therapy it provides additional skin rejuvenation and wound healing benefits.

Benefits Of Cleansing Amber LED Light

For: Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Amber light therapy has a wavelength of between 570nm to 620nm. Sometimes broken down into Yellow or Orange.

Amber LED is typically works by stimulating the rejuvenation process within your cells to improve the density of your skin (which drops after the age of 30, causing those fine lines).

On sensitive skin, Amber Light is calming and soothing as well as helping with skin issues that involve redness.  A bonus is that Amber LED works to help flush waste from the skin, boost lymphatic flow and increase cellular growth.

The effects are boosted when used in combination with red light therapy.

Benefits of Calming Green Light

For: Pigmentation
The green light wavelength is 532nm.  When it is absorbed into the skin it has a calming effect.  Green light is absorbed into the skin where it has a calming effect.

Anti-aging therapies often include green light therapy. It helps to lighten hyper-pigmentation spots revealing a brighter complexion. The calming effect also has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the surface of the skin.

Multi- Mode LED

The NeoElegance LED Light Device used at Aesthetics Julie Edwards has the benefit of the Quad mode, which combines 4 different types of LED bulbs

This multi-wavelength therapeutic benefit to the skin, includes Amber, Red, Blue, Green LED bulbs.

When all 4 LED lights are used in one session, this accelerates the results and helps if you have a combination of skin conditions.

Used in combination with Chemical Peels  and  Microneedling as part of a treatment plan, the results can be amazing.

For even greater results, in a shorter amount of time, I can highly recommend having weekly 20-minute sessions of the LED alone in-between treatments.
