Top 5 Anti-Ageing Skin Ingredients

The Top 5 Anti-Ageing Skin Ingredients

Here’s our Top 5 Anti-ageing Skin Ingredients to help you reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.

Vitamin C

It’s fairly common knowledge that Vitamin C is important for your immune system and Vitamin C is also being recognised as crucial for the skin too.  Some of the benefits are:

  • Fades hyperpigmentation
  • Plumps out fine lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen production
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves the appearance of sun-damaged skin
  • Protects the skin from UV damage

You usually find Vitamin C for the skin in a serum fomula.  Just apply it every morning after cleansing.  Then add your favourite moisturiser on top for the full benefits.

Vitamin C serums can also be applied professionally as part of a Microneedling skin care treatment done here at Aesthetics Julie Edwards.

Sunscreen – Essential Anti-Ageing Skin Ingredient

We all know the harmful effects of the sun such as burning … and even skin cancer.

And it’s also one of the factors that is most damaging to your skin in terms of the formation of lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation – those unwanted brown spots that form on the skin.

Apply a sunscreen daily with a minimum of SPF 30.  And SPF 50 when you’re out in strong sun.

SPF contained in moisturiser or foundation is usually a minimal quantity.  Best to apply a dedicated SPF such as  Cliniccare Sun Shield Cream (SPF30+) available at our Skincare Shop.  Check that your moisturiser or other beauty products contain SPF30.

If you do suffer from hyperpigmentation, it can be removed with various beauty treatments such as the amazing Plasma Pen. Treatments with Mesotherapy, microneedling or Chemical Peels also work well.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Formula

Hyaluronic acid – an ingredient naturally produced in your body –  is used in many topical skin care products to help plump out fine lines and wrinkles.

It’s also used in Dermal Fillers to fill deeper wrinkles, for Lip Enhancements and for contouring the cheeks and jaw.

A more recent introduction is the injection of Hyaluronic Acid, not as filler, but as a Skin Boosting Therapy.

Various products such as Profhilo, Sunekos, Jalupro and Hydral are a different form of Hyaluronic Acid in that they disperse in the skin.

As Hyaluronic Acid holds many times its own weight in water, it has a deep moisturising effect for a greater reduction of crepey skin..

Retinol Anti-Ageing Skin Ingredients

An anti-oxidant, Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A and helps to counteract free radicals.  These are the molecules that destroy healthy skin cells.

It’s one of the most effective ingredients for anti-aging because of its ability to produce collagen and regenerate cells.

Retinol is an excellent product to use because it works simply by repairing and improving the overall health of your skin.

It’s best to apply Retinol at night.  Buy a night-time moisturiser or serum which contains Retinol.

Glycolic Acid

Used as a chemical peel Glycolic Acid works by increasing the turnover of skin cells to exfoliate the skin.  It enables dead skin to peel off and reveal fresh, healthy skin with a translucent glow.   It hydrates the skin and stimulates collagen production.

You will find glycolic acid in several skincare products such as cleansers, moisturisers and Chemical Peels.
